Your Venture's Unfair Advantage

1.     Public transportation
VRIN: There are so many reasons as to why public transit is valuable as it provides an affordable, sustainable method of travel for people. Public transit itself is a rarity in much of the country, and where it exists it is localized so a national system wouldn’t have substitutes or imitations.
2.     Infrastructure ownership
VRIN: My venture wouldn’t exist on a traditional commercial market as it is on a much bigger scale. So, as a service to the public, if my company owned the actual railway infrastructure then it couldn’t be imitated. There are very few public railway systems in the country, so rarity is inherent. Also, in regards to potential substitutes, my system would be much more enhanced than the existing systems in the US; also, I have discussed how this mode of transportation exists as a beneficial alternative to car and air travel.
3.     Compatibility with existing systems
VRIN: This resource adds a lot of value to my proposal because the infrastructure already exists within our country that my venture could build off of. Again, rarity is inherent as a well-developed system that actually spans the entire country has not been properly developed yet. This would also make it hard to imitate because the project is on such a large scale, so once a system is in place there likely wouldn’t be another.
4.     Advertising
VRIN: I believe that there would be numerous methods of encouraging people to use this system through proper marketing tools. Travel capabilities are rare and the capacity to imitate the experience that one could get through this system is almost negligible.
5.     Physical accessibility
VRIN: The value in physical accessibility is huge as people want convenience, so having numerous places of access is integral. Airports are also found in many places, but they require much more space and the convenience is often lost because of the complexities involved.
6.     Technological accessibility
VRIN: This resource is in reference to the ability to schedule usage of my theoretical proposal. Scheduling trips and rides can be done in advance online or immediately in person, which adds value. Again, there are very few methods of transportation on the market anyways, so rarity and inimitability are inherent.
7.     Safety
VRIN: Safety is always valuable because people want to ensure they are not in danger of accidents. In comparison to how most people get around, cars, safety is definitely rare as automobile transportation is extremely dangerous.
8.     Job source
VRIN: The advent of my proposal would open up a lot of jobs around the country for construction, maintenance, etc. This is valuable because it provides the country with economic stimulus, and not many services provide jobs around the entire country. This provides rarity and inimitability, and it would be hard to substitute once the system is effectively running.
9.     Existing technology
VRIN: One of the most valuable assets to my proposal is that the necessary technologies and capacity already exist – just not in the US. The market does not exist in the US but it exists in multiple other countries, so no new discoveries need to be made. Rather, the market just needs to be opened here, and whatever firm does that will have rarity and cannot be imitated.

My most valuable resource would be that my venture would own the infrastructure needed to provide the transportation. The system is valuable because it provides an alternative method of transit, and rare because there are only a few that already exist - these are given with my proposal. Since infrastructure has to be made to accompany the system, there is no possibility of imitation. Also, the benefits that a railway system would provide are different than those of cars and planes, which are the two modes of transportation most used to get around the country currently.
