Idea Napkin No.2

1.     I am a young adult that is interested in accessing more places to understand more people. I don’t have any engineering background, so I don’t know how rail systems are built. I don’t have any political science background, so I don’t know the necessary legislation that must be passed to initiate a project of this scale. But, I am a person that sees the potential benefits of having a transnational railway system in a developed country such as ours. An experience I am lucky to have had is that I’ve been to other developed nations where railway transportation is common, and I have been able to see the impacts it has on the communities there. Thus, I believe the same effects can be had here.
2.     I am offering a developed, transnational railway system in the United States. This product offers means of travel, and specifically an alternative to the existing options.
3.     I am offering it to anyone that wants to travel. We live in a continuously connected world where things are moving faster than ever. In regards to how we as people are traveling, there is room for improvement. We should be able to get the comfort we want, the convenience we want, and the quickness we want at the price we want.
4.     I believe consumers should care for many reasons. It is beneficial on the individual level in which travel can be made easier by avoiding cars and planes because rail travel is an intermediate between the two. Additionally, it is beneficial for society. Communities will grow more connected and safer with a decrease in traffic and public transit reduces the negative impacts that current transit systems have on the environment.
5.     This is a unique product in the United States, but not in the world. The core competency in this situation would just be that this is a product and service that has proven to work around the world, but we just do not have it here.

In regards to my feedback on my previous napkin, I didn't include the physical napkin this time because other people didn't seem to do that either.

  1. Hi Archie,

I still love your idea! As someone who has traveled to Europe, I do see the importance of having a rail system because it seems traveling so much easier and cheaper. While I was in Europe, we took the train to Paris to London and from Rome to Venice. It was so much cheaper and I got to see more of the area!

  2. Archie,
I think your idea is great and I really hope it can come to life. Although unrelated to the assignment, have you considered how your business would be hurt during this global pandemic? What kind of precautions would you take to ensure your customers' health and safety? Considering these things now is important so in case this were to happen, you are one step ahead because you already have a plan. Unfortunately, now is probably a bad time to start this business. But soon we will come out of this and the world will be ready to travel via your business.

  3. Archie,

I've agreed from the jump that this idea should be put in order. I like how you mentioned that you did not have background knowledge in some areas that would be crucial in order to inact this plan. It's always good to have a team where each person can bring their knowledge to the table instead of it all being down to you. So you not knowing somethings should not discourage you. Trinity brought up a really good point in her post. This pandemic might set alot of construction back a few years.
