The customer prototype that I have a mental image of is a person
in their 20s. I think this image comes to mind because my generation, which is
nearing or in their 20s, has been largely impacted by the advent of social
media and the extensive popularization of travel. This prototype would like to
shop but also be conscious about money, so they would buy mostly during sales
or at thrift stores. They could be married or unmarried, but probably wouldn’t have
kids yet. This person would be active on social media, somewhat into
photography, and possibly even blogging.
This prototype came to mind is because I was
thinking about generalized commonalities within my generation. There have been
different events that have affected people my age and have created very common
interests and activities among a vast majority of us. I think a commonly shared
thought process is the questioning of what an individual should devote their
time to so that they feel fulfilled. While our parents’ generations were very
work-oriented, I think young people are more leisure and experience-oriented to
feel fulfilled; a big part of this is how we’ve grown up in the age of
technology and globalization. Also, I mentioned it in the avatar description,
but social media is a huge factor. The image that the individual portrays on
social media influences many young people’s lives because they are very
concerned with their appearance and perception. This connects with my first
point. Not only are young adults concerned about how they are attaining life fulfillment,
but they also want to appear on social media as if they are on a journey to
attain this proper life fulfillment.
Disclaimer: I looked up the hashtag "wanderlust" on Instagram to find these pictures because I knew they would capture my point.

Hi Archie!! You're definitely on track because even before, I have wanted your idea to come to life and I feel like you just described me. I definitely fall in your customer segment. I love to travel, I am in my early 20s, I am definitely more experience-oriented. Keep going, you're on the right track.
ReplyDeleteHey Archie,
ReplyDeleteI think you hit your target audience head on. You definitely identified a customer that really does exist and have a need. I think you made a good point that our generation is more leisure oriented and I think you are doing a good job of being aware of that trait and using it to your advantage with your product.
Archie,
ReplyDeleteYour pictures were a VERY nice touch! I think it really captured your idea perfectly. These photos go exactly with the description of your customer being a possible "blogger". Although, I think it is kind of sad that our generation cares so much about how we appear on social media.
