My Entrepreneurship Story
When I was in high school I actually worked for someone who I would consider an entrepreneur, and their business was an entrepreneurial endeavor. I worked at the local pool in my hometown one summer and a man and his were regulars, so we got to talking one day and he had decided that he wanted to open a restaurant. He was from Louisiana and our town did not have a place to get cajun food, so he decided to open up his own cajun restaurant with his wife. I ended up working for the restaurant (Mackey's Munchies, Mackey being the owners' last name) for the last two years of high school.
I enrolled in entrepreneurship because I wanted, and still want to, learn more about the business world that exists outside of the curriculum that is required for critical tracking. I acknowledge that the economics and accounting courses are crucial, foundational pieces of business - but they aren't fun. Entrepreneurship as an idea and concept is definitely more interesting and therefore it's easier to learn and interact with. I hope I gain a greater perspective on business through this course, and how entrepreneurship is an important aspect as well as an interesting aspect of a business.

Hi Archie. I’m happy the man and his wife opened a restaurant that was different than what your hometown was accustomed to. They obviously had success, as you worked for them for two years. Are they still in business? I agree with you that this way of learning entrepreneurship is interesting and fun. You mentioned that you enrolled in this class because you wanted to learn more about business… Are you a business major?
ReplyDeleteThat’s so cool your pool job helped you get involved in the Cajun restaurant. Cajun food is one of my favorites and its very underrepresented. Did you learn many of the recipes and do you still make them today? I am taking this class for similar reasons. It’s so important to understand entrepreneurship in a society that is blooming with opportunities.
