Bug List
A list of my top 20 pet peeves followed by explanations as to why they occur
1.
My roommates do not do their dishes and get
angry with me when I ask them to clean up after themselves
Why? It's possible that they did not grow up having to clean their own dishes. So, they not only cannot understand why they should clean them, but also why I will not clean the dishes they used for them.
2.
I cannot easily drive and park on campus between
8am and 4:30pm
Why? There are a lot of students that go to UF. Managing to make a system that can accommodate thousands of cars, as well as avoiding making traffic worse than it already is, would be difficult.
3.
It is very difficult to find a company that produces
well-made dress pants that actually fit my legs
Why? I am pretty tall and thin, so pants that actually fit well don't fall below my ankles the majority of the time.
4.
My best friend chews her food with her mouth
open and it is incessantly loud
Why? She probably wasn't scolded for it by her parents when she was growing up so now she is a gross adult.
5.
Classmates that start packing up their
belongings 5 minutes before the end of class
Why? Some people are so rude! They don't understand that the 20 seconds that their rude behavior saves them does not matter at all.
6.
The bread from Lucky’s Market begins to grow
mold after barely 48 hours
Why? Lucky's market allegedly makes its products fresh but the packaging must be defective or their bread isn't as fresh as they claim.
7.
Apple Air Pods are extremely easy to lose
because they are small
Why? Apple probably wants you to lose or break them so that they can make more money if you decide to purchase them again.
8.
People who don’t use their blinker when they
switch between lanes
Why? A lot of people weren't taught how to drive properly, and they aren't cognizant of how their actions may inconvenience others.
9.
ProctorU adds additional stress and hassle to
exam taking
Why? The proctored system is put in place so professors don't have to deal with the logistics of placing their students in spaces where they can take their exams. But, this stress is passed down to the students, which is not fair since they are already dealing with the general stress of taking an exam.
10. People
that still insist on using copious amounts of single-use plastic water bottles
Why? They are not aware that pollution is an intense issue that our world is facing and getting a reusable water bottle would be much better.
11. Finding
a suitable place to live near campus is impossible unless you are trying to
spend a fortune
Why? Some students' parents will spend $1000+ for them to live in the best locations so apartments can charge those prices and still get occupants.
12. Professors
use pre-made lecture slides given to them by textbook corporations because
they are too lazy to make their own
Why? They are lazy and don't understand that their teaching and facilitating would be more valuable if they personally made their presentations and lesson plans.
13. Many
of the parking spots in my apartment complex, Royal Village, are so small that in
any other place they would only be suitable for golf carts
Why? The complex promised that each tenant could have a spot, but there is limited space in the lot so they made the actual spots really small.
14. When
moving anything in and out of my apartment I have to take three flights of stairs
because there are no elevators
Why? There is a law that apartment complexes can have a maximum of three floors before installing an elevator, so my complex has three floors and no elevator.
15. I
receive far too many phone calls from random numbers and solicitors that I’ve
had to mute my phone at all times
Why? My phone number is necessary for some websites and I assume that it is distributed to solicitors who bother me.
16. I
cannot kiss a boy in public without the fear of harassment
Why? Homophobia is an unfortunate thing that still exists.
17. Trying
to find essential school information between the “Gatorlink” website and the “ONE.UF”
is difficult
Why? UF has decided to distribute the information each student needs between the two websites and I don't know which website has which. Also, the Gatorlink website is very dated.
18. Classmates
that expect
me to send them weeks of notes when they don’t show up for a month even though we aren't close
Why? They are pre-med so they think they are more overwhelmed than any other student on campus.
19. My
best friend flails in her sleep and I’m often left with a sliver of the bed for
myself when I stay over
Why? There might be something going through her head that causes her to sleep restlessly, college is stressful.
20. I
really don’t like going to restaurants with people who don’t tip well
Why? I don't like having to explain to people that the person waiting on us relies on tips to actually walk away with any money.
The experience I had with this assignment was somewhat backward, as it was easy for me to understand why something that annoys me exists but actually remembering specific things was time-consuming. I also had to think more small scale rather than focus on grievances that are larger scale and impact the world at large. It was difficult to think about my self as an individual because the issues I face seem less detrimental than some of the issues that are impacting earth, society, etc.
your first comment about your roommates leaving dishes in the sink infuriated me all over again. This was up there on my top bugs and its so annoying!! Also, cant believe I didn't think about the air pod thing because that is a constant struggle of mine. I lost 1 air pod twice now.. so annoying. Good post.
ReplyDeleteArchie,
ReplyDeleteYou would think now in 2020 people would mind their own business and let you kiss who you want! I am sorry to hear that this is something you have to deal with. I can entirely relate to you on the dress pants situation. Except I am built quite the opposite of you, short and stubby. Everything that is the right length is too snug on my legs. Everything that fits my legs is always too long. It truly is a struggle. Overall, I found your post to be very relatable and well put together.
